En-route visit the Golden Temple of Dambulla. Dambulla is a large city, situated in the Matale District, Central Province of Sri Lanka. When visiting Sri Lanka, you may want to add Dambulla as a must-see to your travel plans. Dambulla is rich with ancient and modern historical sites to visit, as well as cultural, athletic, and natural resources. Here you will visit the famous Dambulla rock temple. This is a place that has been treasured by many kings since the 1st century B.C. The Dambulla rock temple is an icon in Sri Lanka and houses some of the most unique paintings and statues of Lord Buddha. There are 150 statues of Lord Buddha- the tallest being over 14 ft, carved of rock. There is also a gigantic gold Buddha statue that glitters as you descend the caves that overlook the entire area. This area is said to be an important junction in the country’s economic and cultural uplifting.

In the Evening take an interesting visit to Sigiriya Rock. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most dramatic, inspiring, and beautiful historical locations in the world. A mythical past of feuding dynasties suits Sigiriya’s striking setting- it was built in the 5th century AD by the king, Kasyapa, as a fortress-palace. Worthy of being called the “8th wonder of the world”, Sigiriya is Sri Lanka’s answer to the Taj Mahal and will astonish anyone with its outstandingly beautiful views, staggering engineering, and peerless design.

The city is nestled on a plateau which is surrounded by mountains that make up tea plantations and rainforests. At an altitude of 500m above sea level, Kandy offers a much cooler and more relaxed climate when compared to Colombo. Places to visit in Kandy include the beautiful Kandy Lake located at the heart of the city, around which most of the city revolves. Pussellawa
The summit of the mountain next to Pussallawa is the site where Lord Hanuman first set his foot on Lanka. Close to Pusselawa, there is a barren piece of land in the jungle called Sita Pokuna, also known as Sita Tear Pond. Remarkably no vegetation except grass grows on this piece of land which is surrounded by a dense forest. Sita Pokuna is one of the many places believed to have been, at times, an abode of Sita during her captivity in Lanka, namely when Ravana transferred her from his palace to Ashok Vatika. Thereby Sita Pokuna is a stopover on the so-called Chariot Path. Pokuna is a Sinhalese word for the pond. Local folklore tells that the pond dried up after the departure of Sitadevi from this site.

Yudaganawa
Yudaganawa is an excavation area only a few kilometers west of Puttalam at the Wellawaya to Monaragala main road A4. The Kinkine Vihara is situated here, the largest Buddhist stupa in the island's south. The Ramayana Trail legend has it that Yudaganawa (instead of the formerly identified Yudaganapitiya in the northern highlands) was the arena for the final battle between Rama and Ravana. It is said that the destruction caused by this war is the reason why this piece of land can never bear any vegetation again.

One of the major tourist attractions here is seeing the fresh catch brought by the colorful fishing boats early in the morning and a turtle hatchery is located nearby.
